Upcoming Events

Partner Parish - The Parish Partner Committee will be having their first meeting of the fall Wednesday, September 1 at 9:30am in the parish office. We will be discussing fund raising ideas for our partner parish, Christ the King Parish in Shiprock, NM. Anyone interested in working on this committee is welcome to attend. If you have questions, contact Judy Murphy at 503-646-6987.

March for Purity - The 2nd Annual "March for Purity” sponsored by Real Catholic Ministries, will take place on Saturday, September 11 at 11:00am. Join men from around the Portland area in a march against pornography, abortion and crimes against women. We will meet in the Parish Center parking lot and process to Planned Parenthood, Stars Cabaret, The Dolphin Gentlemen’s Club and Fantasy Adult Bookstore. A Rosary will be said at each location. Please wear a plain white t-shirt to show your “true colors” for purity. For more information, call David Renshaw at 503-640-3456.

A Look at Priesthood - The "Christian in the World" series for the fall season at Mt. Angel will feature presentations that will continue to reflect on the vocation of priesthood. The first presentation, on Saturday, September 11, will be devoted to probing the Scriptural teachings. All presentations begin at 9:00am in the library. For more information, call Cecile Beckerman at 503-393-5041.

Religious Education Classes - Registration is now open for all Religious Education Classes, which begin the end of September. You can download the registration form (Page 1 and Page 2) and drop it off or mail it to the parish office (please make sure to download both pages).  For more information go to the Religious Education page. All grades are currently looking for teachers and assistants.  Please contact the appropriate Coordinator if you can help.  It is not much work, and working with our young church is amazing.

Adult Confirmation - Confirmation classes for adults 18 yrs and older will begin in September. These sessions are for adults who have been baptized, attend Mass regularly and live their Catholic faith. If you, or someone you know, is seeking the graces of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation, call Carole Christensen at 503-644-2619, Ext. 174 for information.

Becoming Catholic - The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is an opportunity to participate in a conversion experience of study, prayer, and community. RCIA classes begin on Tuesday, September 28th at 7:00PM. If you, or someone you know, would like more information, or if you would like to be a “guide” for somebody on this journey of faith, call Carole Christensen at 503-644-2619, Ext. 174.

School Begins - St. Cecilia School begins their 2010-2011 school year on Tuesday, September 7 at 8:30am. Currently, we have openings in Kindergarten through 5th grades.  Please see the school web site for more information. If you have any questions, contact Ann in the school office at 503-644-2619.

Recent Happenings

Golf Tournament - The 27th annual St. Cecilia 9-Hole Golf Tournament and BBQ was held on Sunday, August 15 at McKay Creek Golf Course in Hillsboro.  We had 49 golfers participate in this years event, which was sponsored by the Men's Club.  It was one of the hottest days of the summer, but everyone had a real good time.

Parish Picnic - The annual Parish Picnic was held on July 18.  It was a lot of fun, and the weather was perfect!  We offered more food lines than last year, which made serving much more efficient.  We ran out of desserts again this year, but the Knights of Columbus made up for it by serving about 500 snow cones!  Damon Gentry and John Crocker did an awesome job, and Sister Catherine kept the crew organized.  If you have any pictures of this event that can be posted on this website, please contact John Meek at the email address listed at the bottom of this page.

Celebration - Fr. Pat McNamee celebrated 40 years of Ordination as a priest with a reception in the Activity Center on June 19.  Special guests include Monsignor Dennis O'Donovan, Vicar General of the Portland Archdiocese, and Fr. James Mayo, Pastor of St. Michael Church.  A video reflecting on Fr. Pat's many years of service can be seen here.  This was followed by a Mass of Thanksgiving and Reception at the church of his ordination to the priesthood (All Saints Church in Portland) on August 15.
